Wildlife Mug Shots

Because sometimes you just gotta take time to see cool pictures of wild critters!

Having been a wildlife biologist and always a life-long fan of wild critters, I love seeing photos taken from remote sensing cameras. When you go to check your cameras, it’s like the most anticipated Christmas or birthday morning you can imagine… you start to open the package, but you never really know what’s inside. Then – BAM! – there’s a surprise. I was always thrilled to capture a black bear or a bobcat among the usual pictures of deer, wild hogs, and turkeys that were more common in my SW Florida cameras.

Here, the Smithsonian has a collection of 201,000 camera images from research sites around the world.
