Walking in rain in the dark
Walking in rain
in the dark
a symphony plays
raindrops plink on a metal railing
plunk on the tree limbs
thump on the leaves of the forest floor
soaking into soil, making mud, nourishing plants
Walking in rain
in the dark
a creek swells and swirls
burbling over rocks and limbs
lodged upon its banks
after last fall’s hurricane
tumbling ever downward
toward river and ocean
Walking in rain
in the dark
droplets skim down the lenses of my glasses
softening my view
slowing my pace
I pay closer attention
to the shadows around me
Walking in rain
in the dark
under streetlights
raindrops make tree trunks shimmer
a glossy glow
no longer the dull matte finish
of a dry, sunny day
Walking in rain
in the dark
raindrops pool and hang
under every tiny branch and leaf
jewels reflecting the dawning day
and bidding farewell
to the night, the dark
Walking in rain
in the waning dark
a puddle forms
a mirror
to the sky and trees above
reflecting possibility
and promise
of a new day
Thank you, rain. Today looks beautiful.
