Day 338 of #LiveWell2017
Here’s another unconventional way to give during December.
One of out every five children worldwide lack access to life-saving vaccines. Every 20 seconds a child dies from a disease which could have been prevented with a proper vaccine. If you still need to get a flu shot or a pneumonia shot this year, consider getting it at a Walgreens pharmacy. For every vaccine they give to one of us here in the US, they donate a free vaccine shot to a child in a developing country by working with the United Nations Foundation’s Shot@Life Campaign. The Walgreens program is called Get a Shot – Give a Shot.
If you’ve already gotten your flu shot and would rather donate directly to the UN Foundation’s program, it’s easy to do that here.
Other organizations who work to vaccinate children in need around the world are:
UNICEF – scroll down the page and choose the vaccination you wish to support (you can donate in the name of someone else, a nice way to give to your loved ones) See also the UNICEF USA site.
If you know of other organizations who are helping provide immunizations to kids across the globe, please let us know by mentioning them in the comments below.
Note: As with any charity donation, be sure to shoose the one that best fits your giving goals and spends more dollars on programs and impact than on administrative costs. You can check their ratings on Charity Navigator and Guidestar.
