Day 326 of #LiveWell2017
I read this sentence yesterday:
Every choice you make is building up a habit for the rest of your life.
That’s a powerful idea. So often, we ramble through our days on autopilot, and when we are ready to tuck ourselves into bed we wonder where the day went and what we really accomplished. Each day we make thousands of decisions about what to do, what to eat, who to talk with, what to wear, whether or not to exercise, what to say, how to act. We make decisions about the order in which to complete tasks, how we react to the news, how we spend our money, and how we treat other people. Every single one of these choices is building habits in us – good or bad. Our habits become who we are and what we do in this world.
Being more mindful can help us make better choices – choices that improve our lives and the lives of others – by building habits that make us healthier, more productive, more rested, more content, more kind, more giving. Everything really is connected. Our choices – even the tiniest ones we make each day – are changing us inside and out. Mindfulness gives us a moment to pause and make a conscious choice instead of a reactive one.
So, today, take a breath before you make each choice. Give yourself a moment to decide how you will respond, what you will do to live well and create goodness in your life.
