Koichi Tohei’s 5 principles for health

Day 203 of #LiveWell2017

Day 203 5 principles of health (1)

I am a student of aikido, and though I don’t practice on the mat in the dojo anymore, I still carry with me the principles of aikido and practice aiki exercises almost daily. Recently I reviewed some of Koichi Tohei’s Ki principles and decided to share one set of them here. Koichi Tohei Sensei was a student of Morihei Ueshiba Sensei, the founder of Aikido. Koichi Tohei brought aikido to the United States and formed the Ki Society. He wrote one of my favorite books, Ki in Daily Life.

This #LivingWell2017 adventure is all about being mindful, kind, and generous and about creating goodness. It is hard to do those things when we don’t also take care of ourselves. Koichi Tohei Sensei lists five principles for health that are just good, common sense. They include being positive and grateful and caring for others, all things we’ve talked about here on this blog.

Koichi Tohei’s 5 Principles for Health

  1. Know that your life is protected by the universe
  2. Before sleeping change to positive thoughts and then sleep
  3. Be grateful when you eat
  4. Eat mainly vegetables
  5. Don’t be selfish

What do you think? What would you add to this list?

  1. Thank you for this Deb, I will be looking for the book you reference, this practice is completely new to me. I would add a “2a”….before doing anything, change to positive thoughts.
