Thanks for Sunday Parkways

Day 176 of #LiveWell2017

Day 176 sunday parkways

Sunday Parkways is a Portland tradition, and today is its 10th anniversary. Sunday Parkways are city-sponsored events where approximately eight miles of streets are closed to motor traffic for five hours so that pedestrains, bicyclists, skateboaders, and wheelchair riders can get out and enjoy the city streets and parks in a safe way.

Each route connects several city parks where local agencies, organizations, and businesses set up information tents and provide food, drinks, games, and goodies. The event is held in a different neighborhood each month from May through October.

It is a chance for the community to come together, for kids to get out on their bikes and gain confidence, for residents to meet and share outdoor time together in an active way. Even in the heat wave, we enjoyed spending time on bikes with our friends today. I am grateful for the opportunity to ride during Sunday Parkways, for the volunteers who help to make it possible, and for the city for putting it on! Sunday Parkways is a great example of #LivingWell!
