Half Marathon Survivor

On November 21st I participated in the Women’s Running Magazine Half-Marathon in St. Pete, FL. My training partner and coercer (yes, the one who talked me into signing up for the event in the first place), Peggy, got sick and couldn’t compete. Fortunately for me, my other friend, Brenda, finished well before me and came back to run me to the finish!

The event was positively inspiring. There were nearly 6,000 women racing in the half-marathon and another 1000 in the 5K. They ranged in age from 8 – 79 years old. From the ultra runners who finished in record times to the last women who struggled across the line in 4 hours and 30 minutes, there was a sense of purpose, of accomplishment, of comraderie. The race course was awesome and the bands who played music along the route and cheered us on were amazing. What a day!
